Affordable Space for CreativesOur shared space projects, like Acme Art Works lasted 8 years. The dynamics of gentrification is now overtaking our projects in just 4 years. NNWAC produced four years of programs in the St Paul space from August 2008 until April 2012. It was a great run, presenting film, visual arts, music and theater, but the space was limited, needed too much renovation and lacked ADA access.
What comes next? Is Wicker Park over for artists? We are forming a cooperative approach, with a vision to own a storefront space of 8,000 square feet, convenient to public transportation and provide studio, gallery and workshop space. NNWAC research studies Include: 2020 Artists Design the Future 2014 Bronzeville Artist Lofts 2011 Creative Community Artist Work/Live Condominium Project 2008 Wicker Park Art Center feasibility 2006 Creative Community Survey, Wicker Park Bucktown 2003 Critical Issues Chicago Artists 1996 Arts as Business, Artists Survey 1995 Working Together, West Town Arts Economic Impact Study |
