Join local Chicago artists to launch our newest contemporary art center Acme Art Works. NNWAC in association with BulletProof Film are producers of the film/video weekend November 15 to 17 which welcomes world artist and independent filmmaker Jon Jost for a hands on filmmaking workshop and two screenings. Also featured are three exhibits with artists: Mark Siska, Siebren Versteeg, ausgang.com and screening of new video shorts curated by Melinda Fries and Deborah Stratman.

Jon Jost, a self taught filmmaker, has made some 20 shorts and 13 feature-length films, all of which he has conceived, written, photographed, directed and edited. He is best known for his features All the Vermeers in New York and Frame Up. Jost made his first feature-length film in 1974, and has since devoted himself to the making of a wide-ranging series of films, largely focused on specifically American topics, in form ranging from essays (Speaking Directly, Stagefright, and Uncommon Senses), to essay-fictions (Angel City) to avant-garde and new narrative forms. His work has shown widely in museums, film archives and festivals since 1975. Currently living in Rome, Italy, Jost brings his unique vision and approach to the moving image back to Chicago. Jost is of particular interest to independent filmmakers because he was one of the first established filmmakers to embrace digital video and to explore its potential for story telling.

The filmmaking workshop on Friday, Nov. 15th from 10AM to 5PM is a day long workshop in two parts. The morning session will "open the participant's minds, to forget about preconceptions and then get them to go out almost mindlessly and find out that not knowing what you are doing is a lot more interesting and educational for you than thinking you know what you should do."

The participants will go off on their own, with their own video camera and tape stock, and shoot for a couple of hours. In the afternoon the participants will regroup and view the work together, with feedback from Jost. "People get more out of the workshop if they work hands on, view the result together, and learn from each other." Jon Jost.

Acme Art Works features three exhibits with an Artists' Reception on Saturday, Nov 16th from 6 to 8 PM
